Departmental Profile:
The Department of Philosophy was established in 1963. Since its inception, the department has been striving towards enriching excellence in the domain of philosophical endeavor and towards knowledge keeping in view the broad vision and mission of the college. The current major thrust area of the department includes Applied Ethics, Western philosophy, Indian philosophy, etc and promotes constructive dimensions related to all spheres of human existence and life on earth. The vision of the department has been to ensure transdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in terms of disseminating knowledge and addressing social, ecological, political, linguistic, as well as addressing scientific crisis from the perspective of hardcore philosophical contextualization. At present the Department of Philosophy has nearly 100 students under its tutelage with five (05) faculty members. With the untiring efforts of all the faculty members, the department of philosophy has been organizing educational trips, several seminars and important talks every year under the sponsorship of ICPR & other agencies to enrich research intensity and development of the teachers as well as to make the active participation of the students. Over the years, the department of Philosophy has been graced by the laudable visits of significant personalities such as Prof. Bhupendra Chandra Das (Vidyasagar University), Prof. Amita Chatterjee (Ex Vice Chancellor, Presidency University), Prof. Tapan Kumar De (Vidyasagar University), Dr. Ngaineilam Haokip (Presidency University), Dr. Srikanta Samanta (Principal, NHP college) and so on. There have been opportunities to participate in extension activities through NSS for the students as well as for the teachers.
Course & Programme:
The department offers BA Hons. & BA General Courses following the CBCS syllabus of Vidyasagar University, Midnapore.
Alumni & Placement:
Placement record of the department is quite encouraging. Our alumni members range from members pursuing higher education in different universities as well as those placed in several government schools and colleges. Focus is placed on NET/SLET/JRF exams. Students passed out from the department of Philosophy have found placement as faculty members/researchers in colleges and other academic and research organizations in different parts of the state.
