Departmental Profile
Commerce is the lifeline of an economy. It is all about dealing with trade, commerce industry i.e. business and, as a whole economy and society. Since the inception of Belda College in 1963, the Department of Commerce began its journey by offering B.Com. General Degree Course to the students from its wide adjoining areas. Since then, down the ages, the Department has been travelling along the path of sincere commitment to its learners. The Department has grown, developed and evolved itself with an objective to imparting first grade commerce education to the students and doing its bit to add to the prestige of the college. With tireless efforts and sincere dedication, the Department successfully offered its first Honours Degree Course in the academic session, 1983-84. Having its existence for almost sixty years, the Department of Commerce still remains its prestigious position and its alumni occupy distinguish position in almost all the spears of society; Government, Academicians, entrepreneur, Professionals and other engagements. The vision of our department is to provide excellence in the field of commerce through value-based education for under graduate students in the subjects who will be able to fulfill the needs of society and also to contribute towards the various stakeholders for sustainable world. This Department is endowed with an adequately competent faculty (presently five faculty members are serving, of which three are whole time permanent faculty), and all its members work with untiring zeal to meet the requirements of the curriculum follows the syllabi of the Vidyasagar University under UGC prescribed CBCS model. The Commerce Department provides qualitative education by imparting entrepreneurial and business-oriented skills, like Industrial Training Programme, for starting new ventures and Professional training, like add-on course on application of IT, VAT, GST for equip the students as emerging job markets. The Department has crafted a teaching-learning methodology which has a strong interface with cutting-edge technology in the form of smart classes with innovative Continuous Assessment System comprising of internal assessment, class participation, quiz competition, open-book examination, surprise test, etc. The Department has also been thrusting on sharpening of personality traits in order to make the candidate employable and industry ready. To ensure this the Department has been appointing a Mentor for each student from amongst the faculty members of the Department.
